As a complete renovation / addition this project more than doubles the size of the single family house connecting it to its large west L.A. lot. Combining Japanese construction with Swiss minimalism, the scheme cuts the house in half and rebuilds and doubles the back both outward and upward. Large open rooms flow to the exterior and into one another. A large central light funnel on the second floor draws the stair upward to a series of bedrooms each overlooking the hillside vista. The house optimizes the existing while extending the opportunity to interact with the lush landscape.
